Quick Review of Melancholia

Saw Melancholia in the theatre. I’d hoped it would be whimsical but it was beyond boring, with the main character unsympathetic and most characters uninteresting. Actually two characters were interesting at first, but one became less so and the other disappeared from the story early on. The ending is revealed in the first five minutes, removing what little suspense the movie had. I realize that the very point of the movie may have been to induce melancholy/depression in the viewer, but as a viewer, why would you want to go out of your way to experience that? At least horror films give you an adrenalin rush along with the more unpleasant sensations.
