The Secret Stash of Action Comics #1 That Wasn’t

I used to be a regular at a second-hand store that was across the bridge in Kitimat in its industrial area. Once I was in the store with my mom and the dealer decided to let us in on a secret. She opened up a drawer and excitedly showed us all her copies of Action Comics #1, the first appearance of Superman.  Only all of them said Famous First Edition on the front cover. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that of course Action Comics#1 wasn’t famous when it first came out. Instead what she had was multiple copies of the Famous First Edition reprint version from the 1970s.  Mind you, I hope she hung on to them.  They seemed to be in great shape as I recall, and people actually do collect these facsimiles nowadays. She’d never get as much as the real thing, of course, but she might still have done okay with them if she waited long enough and then sold them to an honest enough dealer .  There’s an extra scarcity to these in mint condition because there’s an extra cover underneath that’s a more precise version of the original, so the true cover’s sometimes removed to try to pass them off as originals (removing the Famous First Edition covers make them practically worthless).
