Send Your Proxy Packing

When connecting to the Internet from home, you may want to disable your proxy (a third party means of connecting to the Internet). You don't need the proxy at home and some viruses target proxies specifically. Cycbot B is an example of this. So if your proxy is on after an infection, you either have the virus back or no Internet connection. Here's how to get rid of the proxy so you can still browse the Internet after you've had a virus like Cycbot B:

Internet Explorer (version tested: 7):
1. On the Menu bar, click Tools
2. Click Internet Options
3. Click the Connections tab
4. Click LAN Settings
5. Click the Automatically detect settings box on
6. Click the Use a proxy server for your LAN off
7. Click OK
8. Click OK again
You can now connect to the Internet.

Firefox (version tested: 3.6):
1. On the Menu bar, click Tools
2. Click Options
3. Click the Advanced box
4. Click the Network tab
5. Click Settings
6. Click No proxy
7. Click OK
8. Click OK again
You can now connect to the Internet.

Chrome:
I'm not sure how to do this one directly. However, after setting the two above as described, Chrome worked fine.

Hopefully you will never need to know how to do this, but if you do get hit with a virus, and getting rid of the virus stops your Internet connecting, this should get you going again.
